That means an ordinary semi-truck with a 105-gallon tank needs about 3 gallons of DEF every time it runs dry. Large capacity big rigs possess diesel tanks that can hold as much as 400 gallons. These tanks will need to add 12 gallons per fill-up.

It’s also important to keep in mind there is no viable product that companies can substitute for DEF. Without maintaining the appropriate mix, your semi-truck or machinery would be operating in violation of EPA regulations.
